BISCUITS
Two freeride skiers hunt for elusive nuggets of joy while learning to love their inner monsters.
A doc-style ski film that follows freeride skiers Nat Segal and Erin Spong over two seasons skiing together across the stunning and aesthetic backcountry of British Columbia, on the hunt for those elusive nuggets of pure joy we all seek in the mountains. From the Selkirks to the Coast Mountain Range, Segal and Spong travel by foot and helicopter, gleaning for terrain that excites and challenges each of them. As their search begins to push their boundaries in the name of progression, both skiers must confront their personal monsters in order to continue moving forward. With help from one another, a willingness to push through discomfort and a healthy sense of humor, Segal and Spong prove to themselves time and time again that the juice is always worth the squeeze.
Segal and Spong get real about what holds them back individually while also doing their best to poke fun at themselves any chance they get. ’Biscuits’ pulls the curtain back and bares all. Like the natural ebbs and flows we all ride in life, a ski season or even a single day in the mountains, the lows are what make the highs feel (taste?) so damn good.
A veteran of the industry, Segal entered the scene as a competitive freeride athlete 17 years ago and has evolved in her career to be not only a film athlete but also a producer and filmmaker in the outdoor space. Spong, on the other hand, was assistant editor of Freeskier Magazine before making the leap to be an athlete herself. Where Spong lacks experience in backcountry film skiing, Segal lends all that she has learned. And where time has set Segal in her ways, Spong offers a refreshing perspective. For every skier it’s something different, but there’s always something that makes it worth it.
